Swami Kripalu (1913-1981) was one of the most accomplished yogis of the 20th century. As a young man, he overcame poverty to distinguish himself in the fields of literature and music. In midlife he became a swami and gained renown as a teacher and inspiritational speaker. Using his fame to serve society, he was recognized as one of India's great humanitarian saints. His last three decades were dedicated to intensive practice, pursuing the end stages of yoga as described in the ancient texts but seldom attempted by modern practioners. Swami Kripalu came to the United States in 1977, where he spent his final four years in residence at the original Kripalu ashram in Pennsylvania and played an instrumental role in bringing yoga to the West. Dharma then Moksha sheds new light on the person behind all these accomplishments-a man whose remarkable life bridges the myth and mysticism of traditional India with the secular and scientific West.
